Merck Manual Of Diagnosis And Therapy The Merck Manual of Diagnosis and Therapy (often referred to simply as The Merck Manual) is one of the world's most widely used medical textbooks. In 1899 it was first published under the name Merck's Manual of the Materia Medica. The current version is the 1999 17th edition ISBN 0911910107. The text is freely available from the website of its publisher, the United States pharmaceutical company Merck & Co., Inc.
Diagnosis Of Exclusion The term diagnosis of exclusion refers to a medical condition whose presence cannot be established with complete confidence from examination or testing. Diagnosis is therefore by elimination of other reasonable possibilities.
An example of such a diagnosis is "fever of unknown origin": to make this diagnosis the most common causes of unexplained fever (infection, neoplasm, or collagen vascular disease) must be ruled out.
